Functionx2ds in the Spotlight

He comes from Rome, Italy. His grandfather was a musician who played mandolin, piano, guitar, and other instruments.

Inspired by his grandfather’s passion, he started learning the guitar at age 12 and then other instruments like bass, keyboards and drums.  This week, we chat to Dario a.k.a. functionx2ds
 
Streetlamp:  To those who have yet to hear your music, how would you describe your sound?
Functionx2ds: It's very mixed because I like to try out different genres of music so it's kind of hard to classify. Sometimes it's a fusion of funk, hip-hop, dance and psychedelic...Even though I love reggae and try to stick that in also...
 
SL:  Who are your main musical influences?
F2:  Many many! I listen to all kinds of music from jazz, chill out, electro house, reggae, rock, funk, hip hop and I also used to listen to metal!

SL:  Do you write your own songs?
F2:  Yes of course, I do collaborate with other artists though
 
SL:  What is your music about? Is there an underlying message?
F2:  My music is about the sound first...The instruments and bass lines, which are the backbone of the song...Lyrics can vary lots of time I talk about fun stuff...weird stories which some are true and some made up...
 
SL:  How do you write music? Do the words come first or the music?
F2:  Usually the music comes first...sometimes lyrics

SL:  If you could collaborate with any musical artist, who would it be?
F2:  Miles Davis

SL:  If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be?
F2:  In a packed stadium

SL:  Where is your favourite place to play music (venue)?
F2:  Depends, I like it when the audience is really close to you

SL:  Do you play any cover songs when you perform? If so, which ones?
F2:  No covers

SL:  What do you do to pay the bills, or does your music earn you enough?
F2:  I wish music would pay my bills...not yet

SL:  What's your outlook on the record industry today?
F2:  I miss the old days

SL:  What are the biggest obstacles for upcoming bands or artists?
F2:  Way too many bands it's hard to stand out and make a living off music so it's hard to find enough time to devote to the art...

SL:  The best album you ever bought?
F2:  Emergency on Planet Earth by Jamiroquai, and many more
 
SL:  "You'll know you've made it when..."
F2:  I would like to win a prize or something or see my album in major stores and people buying it

SL:  "It'll be time to pack up the gear for good when..."
F2:  I don't have a place to keep it anymore
