Contraband

Contraband is no longer confined to airport stockade.

Contraband is reminiscent of a lost generation where blues was still something heart felt and cool.  Their original music carry the tunes of greats, such as Eric Clapton, and local artists, such as Koos Kombuis or Johannes Kerkorrel. They have taken a great sound and made it their own.

As far as their Pink Floyd Tribute show is concerned; they couldn’t have chosen a better band to pay homage to.  By having seen Rodger Waters myself, I know that even one member of Pink Floyd can set you on a journey of the soul.  The melancholy sounds envelopes you in trance, which leads you to revolutionary thought provoking visions, feelings and emotions. A sadness that can bring happiness, and a weakness that provides strength. The contradicting forces have a way to confuse yet delight the senses.

Contraband has captured the essential sound and feel of Pink Floyd in its totality, a harmony of guitars baying over an invigorating drum line, crashing on a deep set bass that Rodger himself would give an appreciative nod of acknowledgement for.

The sultry sounds of true South African artistry culminating into the seductive waves of the great Pink Floyd is enough to satisfy you until you get the opportunity to see them live.

Contraband is definitely a must hear band in South Africa’s extensive repertoire and should appear at Oppikoppi 2008, without a doubt!
