Damn Right
Even in their first year of existence Damn Right steam-rolled charts, fans and the media in a rock ‘n roll frenzy second only to the euphoria and adrenalin of rock ‘n roll greats such as Guns N Roses and AC/DC.
Now you might wonder how we dare compare a relatively young band to established rock masters? The answer is simple: They absolutely, positively, without a doubt rock! And very little gets the feel-good endorphins pumping like solid in-your-face-up-yours rock music.
2007 saw the birth of the band and their first single “Heartbreakers” was soon on top of the Tuks FM SA Top 10, the Loadtheshow.com daily chart (for 6 weeks) as well as the SAMP3.com charts. They were also voted as one of the Top 5 bands whom fans most wanted to see perform at Oppikoppi, but due to a tight schedule the band decided to open the Cape Town leg of the AMPLI5 concert instead. Here they performed alongside not only talented SA rock musicians but international acts such as Violent Femmes, Groove Armada and Jimmy Eat World as well. Later the same year their newly-released first music video (for the Heartbreakers single) made its way to MK, was included in the Namibian Film Festival selection, and started receiving airplay on SABC 1 & 2. This video has also remained in the Top 3 of MNET’s eDIT Awards. In September 2007 the band started recording the 5-track Son Of A Gun EP.
This year DR kicked off with a performance at The Assembly in Cape Town. In February they released their Son Of A Gun EP and followed this with the single “Ride” a few months later. In between rocking performances such as their show at Hell’s Angels World Rally, the band started writing and recording their latest album. This EP was recorded at the Red Bull Radar Studios and is set for release later this month.
You can catch Damn Right in all their rocking glory tomorrow at The Full Coarse Music Festival in Port Elizabeth alongside 12th Avenue, Locus Standi, Motara, Pen In Hand, Exo Skeletons and others. This concert will be held at Humerail Caravan Park and is in aid of Reach for a Dream. In the meantime, be sure to listen to some preview tracks from the forthcoming EP on the band’s MySpace Page. To fully comprehend the fierce rock n roll that is Damn Right, listen to Heartbreakers right here on Streetlamp.
