Weez & B Real
This year 25 year old Weez went from being an upcoming hip hop artist to being a hip hop artist. Period.
Weez puts the “hip” in hip hop for music listeners of all genres and he has gained a loyal following amongst fans ranging from bling-wrapped rap fans to rockers and kwaito lovers alike.
2008 will be known as the year of collaborations for Weez. This artist performed “Permanent Damage” with Lady Lea at various venues throughout the country. This track was also featured on her “3rd Time Lucky/Catch Me If You Can” album. If you tune in to Matrix on MK you will hear the rock/hip hop track Red My. Weez & Afrikaans rock band Dertig Nul Ses recorded “Red My” for the MK show in June this year. Other collaborations include “Just Now” (recorded with funk artist Gazelle) and “Oh Damn” – a track Weez recorded with local hip hop crew; Dem Crack Boys.
Notably, the most impressive collaboration of all is that of Weez with none other than hip hop master B Real of Cypress Hill. B Real flew 20 of the hottest hip hop talents from all over the world to his Los Angeles studios to record the album: The Harvest Vol 1. Not only was Weez the only artist from the African continent to be chosen for this great honor, but upon hearing him in action, Cypress Hill’s label: Latin Thugs Records offered him an international distribution deal. The Harvest Vol 1 is completely produced by B Real and the Weez/B Real track: “Step Back” also features a Dr Dre bass player.
This past year Weez has also been busy with the shooting of the video for his Permanent Damage track. This video receives airplay on MTV, Channel O and MK. Weez has also been interviewed/featured on various programmes including MK Live, TRL Radio on MTV Base, Gons, Studio 1, Channel O, O-Boma and MK Matrix.
Currently Weez is promoting his “Get Ready” album, whilst already working on his next release. The star says that he is considering moving to LA, but will make a decision on this big move only at the end of next year. In the meantime, Weez’s aim is to inspire & promote growth in the local hip hop industry as well as to add a fresh flavour to the hip hop sound – a Weez flavour!
