The 5-piece melodic rock outfit: Krimineel formed in 2006 when Irinka Aspeling (vocals & rhythm) and Christiaan Steyn (electric violin & piano) decided to combine their talents & abilities to form a unique Afrikaans rock band.
2008 was a busy year for the band. During this year Krimineel was joined by 3 new members: Fanus Van Wyk (lead guitar), Ruan Du Preez (bass guitar), and Tim Kirsten (drums). Now a complete outfit, the band started recording their new album: “Kriminele Rekord”. This album was recorded at Lightstain Studios (Straatligkinders, Ef-El & FAC) and is scheduled to be released in January 2009.
Earlier this year, Krimineel was chosen as one of 5 finalists in the South African leg of the HP Design Your Personal Life Competition. The other finalists were jacSharp, Ike Moriz, Jet Black & The Multicolors and He*sha*burn. The aim of this competition was to bring together local talent on a global stage. Four countries competed simultaneously in this event: Athens, Dubai, Istanbul & South Africa – connected live via satellite, the bands could catch a glimpse of the other countries’ winners on the night of the final.
This past year Krimineel shared the stage with bands such as Glaskas, Parlotones, Duskant Ombliksem, Aphonia, Goldfish and Hikatori. Their track: Duplikaat received raving reviews, and the video for this song has just premiered on MK.
