MAZ Profile

A rapper with a truly universal appeal Maz. Vacating from PTS, to Section Park High, to Low, Mbabane Swaziland and Midrand South Africa, his locale certainly informed his rapping style, which is as much his own and urban.
"I would have loved to do the whole album in Swati but was limited by the fact that Swati is not an international language," he said.

Maz spent most his time producing demos for artists and later went into engineering music for the legends in music. He has worked with the likes of DON LAKA, MAFIKIZOLO, SPIKIRI, BONGO MAFFIN, JEFF MALULEKE, HERMANN FOX, PALESA, OUPA "Poy Poy" MAKHUBELA and many more. When the time was right he seized the opportunity to launch his own rapping career.
Twenty two-year-old Mazwe Mtetwa a.k.a. Maz began his career at the age of 16. "Just like other kids, I was influenced by what I saw on television, but the only difference was that I followed up on my aspirations and became what I am today."

I n 1999, Maz and a long time friend ZWA, formerly known as Playboy, came together and formed a group called PHAT BEATZ. At first things started off slowly, but as time went on pulled in quite a crowd", he said.
Soon after, Phat Beatz joined with a trio called KNACK TRO CONNECTION, made up of ( Tha Courtesy, Lady K-ash, and Ksy-Luv and together they formed KNACK BEATZ who scored a regional hit in 2000 with a self-produced single, "Im Still Knack Beat." Frustrated with failed attempts to land a record deal as a group, they collectively decided that Maz would have a better chance as a single act. The rest of the group could follow with solo albums of their own at a later stage.

Maz running solo caught the attention of DON LAKA Owner of Slam Records a division of Bokone Music, who released his debut album, My Dream, in 2006. Through the release of My Dream Maz has been featured by other popular artist like HERMANN FOX "Umchini", PALESA "Thula", "Mama", and "Sugar Love", and STOMZA "Ungalahli Itemba" With hits like these Maz proved he has along way to go in the hiphop industry.

Yet again another album followed October 2007 titled BACKFORTHAFIRSTYM. A 14th track Album with tracks like Ngil'nigga San, Usasemncane jo, Les'gubhu and many more to look out for! " I titles this album BACKDA1STYM simple beacause I felt I came out with my 1st album, a few people noticed and heard it, and this tym around Im back, and a lot of people will know about Me and my music." He said using the key words of his second project.

What distinguished Maz's take on rap from others is his laid-back delivery, deliberately reflecting the distinctive languages of both countries his lived in. The album features contributions acts from Bokone Music, the likes of Herman Fox on Usase ku ngofu, and a soul full diva Faith Maphai (PALESA) Last Hope, as well as Slam Records acts.
