A new, fresh and energetic group born in the summer of 2008, Black Market Riots are focussed and determined to make their style and passion for music something to get hooked on and excited about.

Their music would best be described as hard-hitting indie rock & roll. Making music coming out of the soul and emotions wrapping it up all in one. No rules are set for these guys in music. Purely creating their own way of music while converting a dream into reality on stage and off. Lyrics are pure, honest and deals with reality and dreams complimented by hard grunge sounds with melodic tones of passion and youth.

Black Market Riots proudly stands for fighting against everything that is wrong in society and creating a following for people who believes that there is something more to reach for and not give in to the life of what is expected of the everyday Joe.

In this young group there are four members coming from Somerset West and Stellenbosch. Danie de Villiers on lead vocals and Rhythm guitar, Nico Mans on Bass guitar, Shaun Viljoen on Drums and Pierre Joubert on Lead guitar. All four members which have been in the music circles for the last 6-7 years. These four guys started out with the idea of expressing their views and energy to the public in which they have succeeded thus far. Playing all over the winelands and Cape Town scene and creating a great awareness of who they are and what they are here for. Truly one of their great aspects are public and media presence. Having their debut launch at Aandklkas in Stellenbosch on 13 May, three months down the line since they started, could not have been more welcomed by the support they had. Pulling in a crowd of 200+ people was a great message to the band that there is a need for the style and energy they have to share. Two months since they started they recorded a 3 track demo in only 2 days in order for the public to know what they sound like and to make people excited about what they are doing. These demos were handed out for free every where they went and every where they have not been. The gigs came in places such as Mercury Cape Town, Zula Bar Cape Town, Kunskafee Durbanville, Corner Bar Durbanville, Aandklas Stellenbosch, Stones Tableview etc. They also got a wild card slot to play at one of South Africa's well-known festivals, OPPIKOPPI in 2008. Not long after this they shared the stage with Van Coke Kartel, Kobus and 12th Avenue. In October 2008 they took part in the annual Mystic Boer Battle of the Bands and walked away with first place and so got a R17 000 recording slot with Franschhoek Studios. In this studio session they recorded a 7 track EP and goals are set to relaese this EP by mid March 2009. Big goals are set in this band and they are making sure they reach what they want.
