  1. Is my personal information secure?
Yes, the streetlamp website uses 128bit SSL encryption to keep the bad guys from stealing your info.  Streetlamp will not use your information for any reason not directly related to the website.
  2. I never received a password or verification email.
Firstly, make sure you typed the correct email address when you registered.  You can do this by clicking "Forgot Password" in the login box, entering your email address and clicking "Send Reminder."  If you get a message saying "Password reminder not sent", please re register and make sure to check your spelling.  If it says "Password reminder has been sent", check your inbox.  If it isnt there, check your spam folder.  In some cases, Yahoo and Hotmail addresses mistakes our email as spam, and blocks it.   If possible, try an alternative address.
Still no luck, please contact us for assistance.
  3. What if I don't have a credit card?

In the event that you are unable to purchase credits with a credit card, you can pay by EFT or direct deposit. Mail info@streetlamp.co.za for banking details.

  4. What is the VIP fan credit package?
All users will be able to preview songs, download free songs, purchase songs, and view the gig guide and videos.  VIP users commit to contribute R30 per month toward supporting our artists and charities.  For this they will be able to do all the things that users can do, as well as download songs to the value of 500 credits per month.  But remember, your VIP package credits will reset to 500 every month.  If you don't use it, you lose it!
  5. Can anyone upload content?
The streetlamp.co.za website is geared toward promoting and showcasing independent musical artists and their original music.  Any videos or content not related to the streetlamp concept will be rejected.  As long as the music and videos are original content and you don’t have an exclusive contract with a record label or promoter, you may upload.  Simply register, accept the performers agreement, create your artist profile and start uploading.
  6. Why should an Artist showcase on streetlamp?
By posting your music on the streetlamp.co.za website, you get free exposure, get paid, get comments from your fans and also protect your songs. (see "how do I keep someone from stealing my songs").  50% of whatever is spend on the Streetlamp website will be paid out to the artists. 10% will be donated toward a worthy cause (please see our charity page for regular updates) and 20% will be used to market the artists and the website.  Unlike other sites, streetlamp.co.za is a dynamic website committed to promoting and showcasing artists online and well as offline.
  7. What does it cost to publish my music on the streetlamp website?
Nothing.  Just make sure your music is of good quality and original.
  8. Is there a limit to the amount of songs I can upload?
No, once your artist profile has been created, you can upload as many songs as you wish – as long as you have copyright on the material.
  9. I am a DJ. May I upload DJ mixes to the site?
You are allowed to upload your mixes, as long as you have copyright on all the content of your mixes.  Unfortunately, we cannot allow remakes of music owned by other artists, record labels, publishers or other legal entities, unless you have an agreement in place with such entities.
  10. How do I report copyright infringement?
Copyright infringement will be considered in a very serious light on the streetlamp website.  If you feel that any content on the website has been falsely presented, please send an email to abuse@streetlamp.co.za.  Make sure you include all the details relating to your claim as well as your own contact details.
  11. How do I prevent someone from stealing my songs?
South African copyright law protects you as soon as you create something tangible (i.e. lyrics on paper, a recording, sheet music).  In a legal discrepancy, however, it might be difficult to prove the date you created your original music.  You can protect yourself further by posting your original content on the streetlamp.co.za website, registering your song with the South African Music Rights Association www.samro.org.za or even posting a recording of your music to yourself (to have the date stamp as proof).  Feel free to contact us should you require assistance.
  12. How does the pricing structure work?

The pricing structure of songs uploaded to the website is governed by an automated system.  All new songs start out for free.  As soon as 10 different users have downloaded a song, the song will start earning a credit value.  As soon as 200 different users have downloaded a song, it will be capped at 50 credits.

Artist earnings are paid out based on 50% of the credit value generated by their songs.  Credit value is calculated based on credit packages the fans purchased, and works out to about 4 cents (South African Rand) per credit.

    Examples:
A brand new song – cost:  0 credits.  The artist earns: 0 credits
After 10 downloads – cost:  5 credits.  The artist earns: ZAR0.20 per download
After 11 downloads – cost:  6 credits.  The artist earns: ZAR0.24 per download
After 200 downloads – cost:  50 credits. The artist earns: ZAR2.00 per download

  13. What content can an artist upload?
Artists will be able to upload a picture, music, videos as well as create an artist profile.  All content must be original.
  14. Do I have to be a South African artist to list my music on Streetlamp.co.za?
No.  All artists may showcase their music on the Streetlamp.co.za website, as long as they are able to comply with our Performers Agreement within the laws of their home country.
  15. May I do a cover of a song?
No.  All content on the Streetlamp website must be original.  Unless, of course, you have a copyright agreement in place with the rightful owner of the song you wish to cover.
  16. How will I get paid?
Based on the credit value generated by your music, you will be paid before the 5th of every month.  Payments will be made directly into your bank account.  Payments due are generated by an automated system without intervention from the Streetlamp team.
  17. We are a band, how do we get paid?
Only one band member may represent the band on the streetlamp.co.za website.  If you are the member representing your band on Streetlamp.co.za, you are responsible for the fair distribtution of the royalties to other band members.  It is a good idea to get a written agreement in place between band members before posting any content.  If someone else wrote your lyrics, make sure to include them in royalty distribution as well.  This way, royalty payments never become a bigger issue than making good music.
