This is the first issue of our weekly newsletter where well share with you the latest happenings on the website and the music scene in general.
Streetlamp News
Firstly, we’ve got some hot new talent onboard! Welcome to
Dirk Erasmus and
Contraband who joined us this week, adding two new genres to the play list. Dirk is an electronica wizard and Contraband makes classic rock magic! We really are privileged to come across such talent so soon after launching! Registration for fans and artists is FREE and the first 10 downloads of every song is also FREE! Please download their music; rate it and comment on their work. That’s what Streetlamp is all about – for artists to find out what their fans, and the general public has to say about their music. Also, it gives the fans an opportunity to tell the artists that they rock or suck or whatever in between!
We’ve added a
news feed on the website’s
homepage where we’ll keep you guys & gals updated with the latest happenings. Please help us with this by
contacting us with anything that you reckon is newsworthy – we’ll add it on to the news feed.
Also added is a
featured artist on the homepage. We’ll be featuring a new band or artist every week and hope to include interviews and video content of the featured band in the near future. Remember that the video functionality is already available and ready for bands to upload their clips – anything from a live performance to an interview for the fans to get to know you – just keep it clean!

On Sunday our friend,
Allan John, performed at Emperor’s Palace in the
Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB). Allan says it went well, even though the sound engineer could have raised the volume on the acoustic guitar! We hope to include Allan’s talent on Streetlamp in the near future – watch this space! Check out the
GBOB website for more info on GBOB.
'Vermoor Jou Vriende' sizzled at the JIP Rockspaaider contest held at Aardklop earlier this year. With a completely new sound in Afrikaans music they won the title as best band for 2007. Bands such as Incubus, Thrice and The Deftones inspire them. Have a listen to them
here.

Last week has been a surprising one, musically speaking. Britney Spears launched her new album “Blackout” and according to Rolling Stone sold 124,000 copies on the day of release! Imagine that! And here I was, thinking that after all her recent escapades with Paris she was a gonner! Checkout her hit
“Gimme more” on Youtube and decide for yourself.
Ozzy Osbourne was in the spotlight again. Last week Monday about forty of Ozzy’s fans attended a pre-party for his joint concert with Rob Zombie. The concert was organised to try boost sales of his struggling “Black Rain” album. Turns out that the police arranged the pre-party, and the invitees were handpicked offenders wanted for ignoring court summons, outstanding fines, drug charges etc. Ozzy was furious that his fans and friends where so blatantly tricked!
That’s the story for now! Please continue supporting the artists and tell your friends and family about the website!
Speak soon!
